A temporary “school streets” scheme in Twickenham is going permanent.
Traffic around a school in Twickenham has decreased by over 70% following a ban on vehicles at certain times. A “school street” was set up around St Richard Reynold’s in September last year. Data comparing traffic levels before and after its implementation shows a 73.5% decrease between 7.30am and 9.30am in Station Road. Clifden Road, in which the school sits, has seen a 52% decrease. The ban on vehicles is Monday to Friday from 7.45am to 9.15am and from 2pm to 3.30pm during term time only. Richmond Council has piloted 14 School Streets across the borough since June 2020.
