Enforcement officers in Kensington and Chelsea have reported over 700 cases of engine idling over the last year alone.

The Council has joined the Engines Off Every Stop campaign to try and improve air quality in the borough.

The authority says there are 3,095 additional cardio-respiratory admissions every year as a result of poor air quality.

It says this costs the health and social care system £3.5 million.

Council officers have had powers to enforce against drivers idling in the borough since 2019.

The authority says “idling for just 30 seconds produces twice as much pollution and wastes more fuel than switching off and restarting.”
