Rivers and ponds in Richmond and Bushy Parks are being monitored for signs of Avian Flu
Managers, The Royal Parks, says it is “unable to prevent” its wild birds from getting the virus. The H5N1 virus is highly contagious and can kill poultry flocks which include ducks and geese. There have been a number of outbreaks across Europe recently, including in the UK, in Yorkshire, Norfolk and Essex. The UK Health Security Agency says the risk to public health from the detected strains of “bird flu” is currently very low. The Royal Parks is urging people not to touch any of its birds and report any that look unwell.
