The chairwoman of the inquiry into the murder of Sarah Everard from Clapham has been announced

Priti Patel says Dame Elish Angiolini will be in charge on a non-statutory basis in order to “give her family closure as quickly as possible”.

Non-statutory inquiries have to rely on the voluntary compliance of witnesses, and cannot take evidence on oath.

The Home Secretary hasn’t ruled out moving it to a statutory basis if needed.
