Twickenham’s MP is accusing the Home Office of keeping Afghan refugees

Munira Wilson says despite Richmond Council offering up homes, families are still being housed in hotels and hostels.

 Speaking in the Commons, she’s demanded permanent homes are found for refugees in the properties that have been secured. 

A Government spokesperson says “a significant cross Government effort is underway” to help Afghan migrants integrate into communities. 

 A government spokesperson said: 

“A significant cross government effort is underway to ensure the thousands of Afghans who were evacuated to the UK receive the support they need to rebuild their lives, find work, pursue education, and integrate into their local communities.

 “We continue to work with local authorities to source appropriate permanent accommodation as quickly as possible. We have had to use hotels as a temporary measure due to unprecedented demand.”
