Christmas is the time when the UK traditionally lights up, but this year, we’re being encouraged to enjoy the natural night sky instead.

Charity Bugslife says excessive lighting is damaging our ecology and is calling for a national target to reduce levels of “light pollution.” 

John Evans is founder of a similar environmental campaign across Surrey called Dark Skies Matter.

He says it’s not just bugs and insects that suffer from “light pollution.”
