A vehicle connected to an ongoing theft investigation was identified as being on the A3 by ANPR cameras at around 5pm.
Officers then pursued it to Poplar Grove where they were assisted by the police helicopter.
The man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to provide a specimen and driving without insurance.
