Historic Royal Palaces says the closure of its sites during lockdown cost it £100 million.
It says the majority of the estate will remain free of charge including Home Park and Barge Walk.
A Historic Royal Palaces spokesman said:
‘Hampton Court Palace is managed by Historic Royal Palaces, an independent, self-funding charity.
The pandemic has had a devastating impact on our finances.
With our sites closed for prolonged periods, in the last financial year we lost almost all of our income, leaving us facing a shortfall of £100m.
As a result, we are no longer able to afford to staff some areas of the gardens to maintain free public access.
We are committed to continuing to provide free access to the majority of the Hampton Court Palace estate, including the 750 acres of Home Park and Barge Walk.’
