Kingston Council says it is fully committed to doing all it can to protect Seething Wells Filter Beds in Surbiton.
It’s after Seething Wells Action group accused the authority of “doing nothing” to stop the area from being developed. Kingston Council says it has limited powers because the beds are owned by a private landowner, Cascina. Residents living near the site off Portsmouth Road say the site is a critical landscape for wildlife and biodiversity. Kingston Council says it has issued Cascina a Section 215 notice which requires it to deal with the neglected state of the beds. But council officers say the land has “remained largely in the same condition as when the last review was carried out during 2020.”
