MP for Kingston and Surbiton Sir Ed Davey has criticised government housing targets in Surrey, calling them “eye watering”.
The Liberal Democrat leader said government housing targets are "forcing councils" in Surrey to allocate green belt land for development. In Mole Valley, the district council has submitted a plan to build 6,000 homes by 2037, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. But Sir Ed said these targets were “out of date” due to the amount of office space that will be empty post-Covid, with increases in remote working. A government spokesperson said: "Protecting the cherished countryside and green spaces is our priority."
