The Royal Marsden is celebrating a robotic milestone at its Chelsea hospital
Head of Urology, Declan Cahill, has performed his 2,000th robotically assisted prostate procedure. A “radical prostatectomy” involves the removal of the prostate gland and some surrounding tissues in men with advanced prostate cancer. A typical UK prostate surgeon will carry out around 40 such procedures per year. Mr Cahill uses a system called the “da Vinci S” to carry out his procedures. The Marsden was the first hospital in England to introduce it.
