Two senior judges have ruled that the Metropolitan Police breached the rights of activists who planned a vigil for Sarah Everard in Clapham
Reclaim These Streets proposed a socially-distanced gathering last March, which was rejected because of Covid restrictions. A spontaneous vigil took place on the Common instead. Reclaim These Streets says the "decision making was flawed at every single step of the process" The Met defended the claim and argued there was no exception for protest in the coronavirus rules at the time and it had 'no obligation' to assess the public health risk. The group has previously stated they’d donate their damages to charity. The police watchdog cleared the Met of wrongdoing in a previous inquiry.
