A Georgian villa in Twickenham is reopening to the public after an £8m restoration

Marble Hill was owned by King George II’s royal mistress, Henrietta Howard, and she entertained friends “on a scale which was said to rival the royal court”.

Twickenham-based poet Alexander Pope is among the people to have been hosted there, and he later wrote poems about her.

Admission will be free and it’ll be open five days a week.
