An ambitious appeal to save Surrey’s bees has been launched
Charity, Surrey Wildlife Trust, is aiming to halt the decline of the county’s bees, bugs and butterflies. Money raised from the campaign will be used to restore and connect pollinator habitat across Surrey. Over 50% of the Earth’s insects have disappeared since 1970, with 41% of remaining insect species threatened with extinction. The UK has also lost 13 of its 270 species of bees since 1990. There are 24 bumble bee species in the UK, most of which have been recorded in Surrey, but some of those are also now extinct.
