Gardeners and tree surgeons are being warned they could face a £5,000 fine if they disturb nesting birds.

Wildlife Aid Foundation is coping with an influx of hatchlings at its centre in Leatherhead.

These include abandoned and injured baby birds, three of which saw their nest removed during tree felling works.

The law states that if you discover a nest where work is due to start, you are required to postpone and not disturb it.
