The Premier League has approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea by a consortium led by American billionaire Todd Boehly.

The Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner has agreed to pay 4-and-a-quarter billion pounds for the Stamford Bridge club.

However, the deal remains subject to government approval due to sanctions imposed on current owner Roman Abramovich.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's spokesperson says the government has started talks with "international partners" over the sale.
