A councillor who lived near Grenfell Tower has said she ran for the position out of a sense of duty.

Claire Simmons, who was elected in May, watched the tower burning from her home in North Kensington on June 14th, 2017.

The Kensington and Chelsea labour councillor wanted to make sure that what happened to the residents of Grenfell was not in vain. 

Seventy-two people died after the blaze broke out in a fourth floor flat.
