A sickle cell patient has been given a “new lease of life” after receiving a rare stem cell transplant at St George’s Hospital in Tooting

43-year-old Anusjka Etumnu says the condition meant her life was “very limited”, but her surgery has “changed my whole perspective”.

The operation requires approval from a national panel, but means her body no longer has any sickle blood in her system.
