A special 999 service for the deaf community will launch in Leatherhead on Friday.

999 BSL is the UK’s first ever Video Relay Service connecting deaf people to the emergency services via a remote interpreter.

It will launch as a phone app and web-based platform and be funded by private telecoms companies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The launch is taking place at charity, Sight for Surrey’s headquarters.
