Hounslow is seeing an outbreak of a type of moth that can cause eye and throat irritation in people.

The council says it’s working to remove the caterpillars of the Oak Processionary Moth, which nest in oak tree trunks and branches.

Residents and visitors are being told to avoid contact with them and report sightings to the Forestry Commission’s Tree Alert Service.

The caterpillars are easily recognisable because of their long white hairs and the way they travel in nose-to-tail processions.
