St George’s in Tooting is one of the hospitals seeing huge demand for a rare type of blood over the last year

There has been a 58% increase in demand in London hospitals as a whole for R0 blood which is needed to treat sickle cell disease. 

It’s the fastest growing genetic disease in the UK and is more common in people of black heritage. 

Around 80% of all the Ro required in England is needed by patients in London.
