The 118 people who lost their lives in the Staines Air Disaster of 1972 will be remembered this weekend.

It’s the worst aviation accident this country has ever seen, bar Lockerbie, which was a terrorist act.

The aircraft, a Hawker Siddeley Trident, took off from Heathrow but after entering a deep stall, crashed just 150 seconds later.

A public inquiry into the incident made several recommendations to improve aviation safety including installing cockpit voice recorders.
