The London Assembly Member for Merton has come under fire for suggesting that people in London could buy a new car to avoid the ULEZ.

Leonie Cooper says the cost of £12.50 a day equates to just under £3,000 a year, and that a second-hand car could be found in a magazine for that.

Since the comments at City Hall Question Time, she’s since called for a government-backed scrappage scheme for those who can’t afford that.

A consultation is running into the expansion of the Ultra Low Emissions Zone on the TfL website.
