Young people in Wandsworth are being mobilised to save newly planted trees from wilting in the heat
They’re being urged to save up to 500 trees planted for the jubilee by by feeding them water, often through plastic tubes set beside the trunk, which lead deep into the soil. Meanwhile Hounslow Council says it’s a little closer to its declared aim for jubilee year of planting a tree for every child born in the borough. The latest editions to what’s described as The Queen’s Green canopy were planted at Turnham Green, St Paul’s recreation Ground, Boston Manor Park, Sutton Manor and the Farrell Road Open Space. Vartieties include Cherry, Holly, Crab-apple and Horse Chestnut.
