Over 3,500 past and current smokers in Sutton have taken advantage of a free lung check in the last year.

The NHS mobile project aims to improve early diagnosis of conditions, including cancer, before symptoms are noticeable.

55 to 74 year olds with a history of smoking are invited to have the check and, if needed, a CT scan at a unit based at Tesco Cheam. 

Over 400 people who qualified for a scan were subsequently referred to their GP or hospital for further investigation.
