Surrey Police is refuting claims by the Lib Dems that nearly 43% of crimes in the county went un-investigated last year
Chloe
Norman has this special report.
A spokesperson for Surrey Police told us: The rate of solved
crime in Surrey, although reflective of the national picture, is absolutely not
where we would want it to be. However, it is inaccurate to say 42.8% of crimes in
Surrey go un-investigated. All reports of crime are taken seriously and any
viable lines of enquiry will be investigated. The statistic quoted
reflects cases where a suspect has not been able to be identified which may be
down to a number of factors including limited evidential opportunities such as
CCTV, witnesses, and forensics.
We continue to work
with our partners and with the public to strengthening crime prevention and
detection rates across the county and a further 150
officers and operational staff have also been recruited this year as part of
the national uplift to increase police numbers.
