The incorrect use of alarms on trains has caused over 30 hours of delays for South Western Railway passengers

The train company recorded over 176 incidents between December and May.

When an alarm is activated, the train guard must complete a walk through to investigate with the train at a standstill.

Incidents of incorrect usage included a passenger forgetting their luggage on the platform leading to a 7-minute delay.

The penalty for intentionally activating an alarm incorrectly is £1,000.
