The school in Chertsey where Dame Deborah James taught before her bowel cancer diagnosis has paid tribute to her
The 40 year old health campaigner passed away just over two weeks ago, six years after being diagnosed. Salesian School says she made an “instant impact” when she joined in 2012 because of her energy, enthusiasm and work ethic. Her colleagues say she played a key part in the school’s “outstanding” rating by education watchdog Ofsted in 2013. She also led the bid for the school to be a Teaching school; a centre of excellence for teacher training. Dame Deborah was promoted to deputy head in 2016. The school is asking supporters to donate to The Bowel Babe Fund which was set up by Deborah in the weeks before she died. It’s so far raised over £7 million for Cancer Research UK, The Royal Marsden and Bowel Cancer UK.
