Statement from Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham, on the death of Queen Elizabeth II
“Today is an incredibly sad day not only for the people of
the UK, but across the Commonwealth and, indeed, the world.
We all mourn the death of Her Majesty the Queen, who will be
remembered for the unerring grace, dignity and integrity she showed for over
seven decades. I personally admired Her Majesty’s strong faith and unwavering
commitment to public service. The overwhelming outpouring of affection we’ve
seen is testament to how deeply she was respected.
Her Majesty’s remarkable 70-year reign spanned 15 prime
ministers and traced the arc of modern history. At home, Her Majesty’s
patronage of hundreds of charities, and her support of organisations from all
parts of society – schools, businesses, the armed services, cultural
organisations, our NHS – have been invaluable. Overseas, Her Majesty
represented the UK to people and governments all over the world.
At an age when most of us would have been thinking of
enjoying a well-earned retirement, Her Majesty continued her duties with an
energy and enthusiasm that remained undimmed.
As a mark of respect, Parliament will be observing a 10-day
mourning period. My thoughts and condolences – and, I know, those of the people
of Twickenham – go out to Her Majesty’s loved ones, as we mourn her loss and
celebrate her extraordinary legacy.”
