A woman has been jailed for running a puppy smuggling ring in Wimbledon.
49 year old Louise St John Poulton sold around 400
dogs, many of whom were sick, passing them off as valuable ‘designer
dogs’.
RSPCA inspectors launched an investigation in 2017 after
59 adverts were placed over the space of a year.
The charity spoke to 38 witnesses, almost all of
whom bought their dogs from a property in Wimbledon.
When police executed a warrant at the address, they
found two adult dogs and six puppies, all of different breeds and ages inside.
Three raids at other properties in London were also
carried out.
Poulton, who now lives in Spain and did not attend court,
is believed to have defrauded the public out of £300,000.
She’s been sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in
prison, with an additional 4 months to run consecutively.
