People in Spelthorne who come across dead wild birds are being warned not to touch them
The advice from the council comes as it’s announced all poultry and captive birds in England must be kept indoors from Monday. It’s as the Government tries to fight “the biggest ever outbreak of Avian flu”. Spelthorne Borough Council has outlined the circumstances under which you should contact Defra’s helpline. These include calling the Defra helpline (03459 33 55 77) if you find one or more dead bird of prey or owl. Also, 3 or more dead gulls or wild waterfowl which are swans, geese and ducks or 5 or more dead birds of any species. Around 5.5million birds have now died or been culled since October last year.
