The Leader of Merton Council is asking for reassurance the borough’s police stations won’t be closed.
Ross Garrod has written to Deputy Mayor for Policing Sophie Linden.
He’s worried about the future of both Wimbledon and Mitcham stations.
Wimbledon Police station has been threatened with closure in the past and although it saw a reduction in staff, it is still open.
Mr Garrod says officers need to be based in the area which they serve.
He’s revealed Merton has seen small increases in crime, and says a visible, local police presence is central to making sure it remains safe.
