1 point from 3 games for Harlequins as they lose to Sale Sharks at the Twickenham Stoop
For a third game in a row, Harlequins found themselves without a win in the Gallagher Rugby Union Premiership.
Mud was the word of the day at the Twickenham Stoop as heavy rain slowed the pace and played its' part in causing knock-ons and miss-tackles.
Flyhalf Tommy Allan opened the scoring for Harlequins after 5 minutes of play but tries from Tom O'Flaherty and Rob du Preez pulled the visitors Sale Sharks ahead.
Despite another penalty from the boot of Allan, at half-time the hosts were behind 6 - 14.
The second 40-minutes got underway in the style Harlequins needed - Joe Marchant ran in a try. However, no sooner had they regained momentum than penalties were given away and the hosts found themselves under pressure once again. Akker van der Merwe added to the try tally of Sale Sharks.
There was concern as Quins' flyhalf Allan was stretchered from the pitch following a collision with Manu Tuilagi. Referee Wayne Barnes judged it to be a standard rugby incident and play continued with a scrum to Sale.
Despite a superb break by Quins' scrum-half Danny Care, it was Sale's Cobus Wiese who added to the scorecard.
Nick David put the final score on the board for the hosts but with the conversion missed, it meant Harlequins could not earn a losing bonus point.
Full-Time: Harlequins 16 - 24 Sale Sharks
