“Covid-19 conspiracy theories led to a lower uptake of vaccine and testing among the Black community.”
That’s according to new research from Kingston University.
A belief the virus was a myth created to eliminate the Black community was one such damaging theory according to researchers.
The official death rate involving Covid was highest for the Black African group and 3.7 times greater than for white British males.
The study saw participants from across the UK interviewed during the second lockdown in the last few months of 2020 and early 2021.
The study concluded more needs to be done to engage people early in the process, should another pandemic arise.
Professor Vandrevala, who led the research, also says; “we need to build relationships with communities rather than individuals.”
