A 15% tax rise has been approved by Croydon Council

It was initially rejected by opposition members last Thursday, however, and yesterday they initially rejected it again. 

However, when no alternative was put forward, it was voted through. 

It means bills will be over £2,000 a year for an average household, with an extra £235 to pay. 

The authority has been given special permission for the rise due to its near-bankruptcy, and says it has a support scheme for those in need.
