Wayne Couzens has been described by a judge as having a "dangerous belief in his invincibility" after he was sentenced to 19-months for indecent exposure, before he kidnapped Sarah Everard in Clapham and murdered her.
Wayne Couzens has been
sentenced to 19 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to three offences of
exposure.
The offences occurred on the 13th of November 2020, 14th of February 2021 and 27th of February 2021.
Couzens, 50, is currently
serving a whole-life sentence for the rape and murder of Sarah Everard.
Rosemary Ainslie, Head of
the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “Couzens repeatedly targeted women to
expose himself to on multiple occasions. These offences were abhorrent and
caused great distress and discomfort for the victims.
It is right that he has
been prosecuted for these offences, and that he will continue to spend the rest
of his life in prison.”
On the 13th of November 2020,
Couzens exposed himself to a cyclist.
The witness reported the incident online
to Kent Police and provided a description of Couzens. After seeing pictures of
Couzens on the news related to the disappearance of Sarah Everard, she
contacted the police again and identified him as the person who exposed himself
to her.
The second offence
occurred on the 14th of February 2021, where Couzens exposed himself to two workers at a
McDonalds drive-through. He then exposed himself to another worker at the same
drive-through on the 27th of February 2021. Both incidents were caught on CCTV footage.
At the time of these
offences, Couzens was a serving Police officer with the Metropolitan Police and
had no previous convictions or cautions.
