Richmond Council’s leader is welcoming a review of statues linked to slavery


London Mayor Sadiq Khan has ordered the move following a number of Black Lives Matter protests in the capital.

Gareth Roberts says it’s an “uncomfortable and shaming truth that large parts of this county’s wealth is founded in the horrors of the slave trade.”

Although there are no statues in Richmond, there are street names and plaques and Cllr Roberts says he welcomes investigations into them.
