Microplastics in the Thames are being eaten by wildlife, and exist in high quantities

That’s according to research from Royal Holloway University in Egham, the Natural History Museum, and the Zoological Society of London.

They looked at 135 crabs, and removed 874 pieces of plastic from them.

They found that at peak ebb tides, 94,000 microplastics flow down the Thames per second, in some areas.

Researcher Katherine McCoy says it shows greater regulations are needed for labelling and disposal of wet wipes.
