New figures reveal that schools in Surrey excluded pupils for racist bullying eighty-two times between 2018 and 2019.


That’s up from 74 in the previous academic year.

Owen Jones, head of education anti-racism campaign Hope Not Hate, called the figures ‘worrying’.

He said instances of racist abuse were most common in rural and coastal schools, which have mostly white populations.

However, Jones believes that schools are starting to clamp down on the behaviour.
