A Metropolitan Police officer who was shot inside a Croydon custody suite has been named as Sergeant Matt Ratana.

The 54-year-old died in hospital after a man armed with a revolver opened fire yesterday.

The 23-year-old suspect also shot himself, and is in a critical but stable condition.

The force's Commissioner, Cressida Dick, is warning against speculation surrounding the officer's death.
