Martin Farrell, who lives in Woodbines Avenue, had originally planned to mark his seventieth birthday by competing in Germany, but the event was cancelled in May due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Since then he’s been ill in hospital and suffered a separate ankle injury, but at 7am today he began with a gruelling 1.5k swim at Shepperton Open water.
It’ll be followed by a 42km cycle ride starting from his home, and topped off with a quarter marathon through Richmond Park.
