Carshalton and Wallington’s MP says the government’s kick-start scheme has the potential to create thousands of local jobs.

Elliott Colburn is urging businesses to claim some of the £2 billion on offer to fund apprenticeships for young people aged between 16 and 24.

Under the scheme the government pays the national minimum wage plus all pension and national insurance contributions for six months.

Ministers are hoping it’ll help the economy to climb out of the post-virus doldrums and avoid long-term unemployment.
