The team behind the restoration of the iconic grade II listed building in Lavender Hill have picked up the Mayor’s Design gong after it was gutted by a fire in 2015.
Judges praised the “exemplary and scholarly” restoration describing the centre as a, “phoenix arising from the ashes.”
Other award winners
include the Putney Vale Gates, the Fountain in Tooting Bec Common and Archlight
Cinema in Nine Elms, which was constructed out of converted railway
arches.
