There are calls for the government to maintain the increase to Universal Credit brought in at the start of the pandemic.

Lib-Dem run Richmond Council is writing to the Chancellor, saying the extra £20 a week should be made permanent.

It’s co-signed by the Lib Dem MPs for the Twickenham and Richmond Park.

The letter says “people will struggle to cope” if the increase is stopped, and the previous level “was simply not enough”.
