Officers were called to Co-Op on the Highstreet early last Thursday morning following reports of a theft.
The suspect later returned to the store and when confronted he was verbally abusive towards staff.
He is described as aged 35 to 40, of a medium build, with mousey short hair and was wearing a black jacket with black joggers.
