A Surbiton-based Campaign group says a digger has reduced the site of a Victorian waterworks to what they describe as a martian landscape

Members of SWAG, the Seething Wells Action Group have been trying to save the filter beds on the 14-acre former industrial site.

They say they’re now worried that a wall next to the river could have been left unsupported.

The owners of the site Cascina have said work is being done to stop walls collapsing and flooding.

A petition to save the filter beds and turn the area into a nature reserve has attracted thousands of signatures.
