Glaxosmithkline has announced that its going to buy a Californian cancer treatment company in a 1.5-billion-pound deal

GSK, whose headquarters are in Brentford, says the deal represents a 60% premium on shares in Sierra Oncology, a biopharma firm.

The proposed acquisition bolsters the healthcare giant’s strategy of building a new portfolio of speciality medicines.
