The teenager, who was 15 at the time, was arrested when he walked into a café where police officers had gathered.
He admitted two counts of moped-enabled robbery, one count of attempted robbery and possession of criminal property.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail with six months' to be served behind bars and six months on licence.
