Merton Council is commissioning its own review of plans to move services away from St Helier Hospital.

Units like maternity and A&E are to move out of the site in Carshalton to a new hospital in the Belmont area of Sutton. 

Hospital bosses are calling on the government to speed up the move.

But Merton’s Labour Council leader, Ross Garrod, says the money should be spent on upgrading St Helier instead.
