People in Putney say the closure of Hammersmith and Wandsworth Bridges will channel more traffic through the town

Hammersmith Bridge has been closed to vehicles since 2019 while Wandsworth Bridge is to close for 10 weeks in July. 

Wandsworth Council says the works are being done at the quietest time of the year to help ease disruption. 

Research by traffic company INRIX earlier this year concluded that Putney High Street was on the most congested route in the UK.
